About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program is a high-octane, 10-week immersive experience designed to train the next generation of media professionals, including producers, reporters, weather experts, and sales executives. Participants will engage in real-world assignments, create digital content, collaborate with experienced professionals, and build a professional portfolio. The program aims to provide hands-on experience in crafting news stories, tracking weather, and closing digital ad deals, with the potential for full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's network. The program is offered at KYTV/KSPR and is a paid training experience.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a college student (Junior or Senior status preferred).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A 'doer' mindset with a willingness to take initiative.
  • Understanding that media exists across multiple platforms (TV, social media, web).
  • Strong work ethic, organization, and a 'can-do' attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, and explaining forecasts.
  • Commitment to the full 10-week program and a 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local communities and the impact of local media.
  • Currently enrolled in a college/university, preferably in your senior year.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Must have a goal to work in broadcast television.
  • Earning a degree in Broadcast Journalism/Communications, or related fields, with a desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry.

  • Tell stories that matter to the community or help local businesses grow.
  • Learn shooting, video editing, and writing for on-air and web.
  • Practice writing web and on-air scripts.
  • Shoot video and interviews.
