About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program is a high-octane, 10-week immersive experience where participants don't just learn the job, they own it. Whether crafting the lead story for the evening news, tracking a cold front on weather tech, or closing a digital ad deal, interns will be a vital part of the award-winning team from day one. This program is designed for the next generation of media powerhouses, producers, reporters, weather experts, and sales executives who are eager to dive into the fast-paced world of local media. The program offers real-world experience, unprecedented access to a massive, innovative network, and serves as a career fast-track for full-time opportunities within Gray Media's network of stations. It is a paid training program focused on innovation and hands-on experience.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in college (preferred Junior or Senior status).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with initiative and a willingness to work.
  • Digital savvy, understanding that media exists across multiple platforms.
  • Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, or explaining forecasts.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local communities and understanding the impact of local media.
  • Currently enrolled in a college/university (preferred Junior/Senior).
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Earning a degree in Journalism/Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, News, Sports, or related fields, with a desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry.

Responsibilities

  • Own the role: Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Drive digital engagement: Create content for social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Collaborate with pros: Work side by side with seasoned veterans to gain insights.
  • Commit to the craft: Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering a specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
  • Make an impact: Tell stories that matter to the community or help local businesses grow through innovative media strategies.
