About The Position

The purpose of this role is to promote the City of Hampton as a viable destination for tourism, sports, and conventions through press releases, social media outlets, and direct contact with clients. The role operates under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in English, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in media relations, public relations, communications, marketing, or a closely related experience.
Knowledge of Associated Press journalism standards with a proven track record of media placement.
Effective communication with internal and external customers.
Ability to communicate and write clearly, concisely, and creatively.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to foster effective public relations and develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with diverse populations.
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
Requires local travel and use of a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement media relations and communications strategies.
Pitch Hampton stories to national, regional, travel, and sports media outlets.
Build relationships with journalists, travel writers, influencers, and content creators.
Write and distribute press releases, articles, media kits, newsletters, and promotional content.
Coordinate media tours and familiarization visits.
Monitor and analyze media coverage across print, online, broadcast, and podcast platforms.
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote Hampton’s visitor experiences and events.
