About The Position

National Life Group has a great story to tell and we’re searching for the right person to tell it. As one of the fastest growing life insurance companies in the U.S., we are hiring a hands-on Media Relations Director to lead the strategy and execution of our public relations, media outreach, and executive thought leadership. This well-connected, dynamic individual contributor will have an eye for detail and an ear to the ground. They will have a strong curiosity and drive to uncover compelling stories through an established network that is ready to amplify it.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience managing external communications including public relations, media relations, and content creation using sound judgement and strategy
  • Proven results achieved through experience, intuition, and a robust network
  • Excellent communicator with empathy and listening skills
  • Approachable, authentic leader who can read a room
  • Data analysis to make informed decisions and recalibrate if necessary
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented and able to work independently in a fast-paced business environment
  • Proactive approach, able to anticipate issues and recommend solutions
  • Take direction and offer constructive feedback
  • Ruthlessly prioritize work and projects to meet deadlines/expectations

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Storytelling: build trusted relationships both internally and externally to promote stories that will spotlight National Life’s top ten status while positioning it as a company that brings financial confidence to underserved markets.
  • Media Leadership: identify and secure high-impact opportunities across media, events, podcasts, and digital platforms for senior leaders working in collaboration with agency partners.
  • Content Curation: craft engaging, accurate content across relevant media (press releases, blogs, online publications, digital, social media, etc.).
  • Thought Leadership: develop and execute personalized communications plans for senior leaders and campaigns aligned with National Life’s business priorities and values.
  • Data Mining Expertise: access and mine data regularly to inform recommendations and measure impact/results of communications and PR plans.
  • Crisis Communications: provide communications expertise and insights to the company’s emergency response team.
  • A Servant Leadership Approach: work independently to drive proven results while pitching in to provide support to teammates when needed.
