About The Position

The position's purpose is to oversee the development and implementation of media strategies and public relations plans for the Wellcare and Medicare businesses, including the PDP portfolio. The goal is to engage and educate external audiences on Centene’s mission, vision, goals, and progress. This role will promote local, regional, and national awareness of Centene’s policies, values, and priorities across diverse audiences, including media, the general public, government, and healthcare communities, through clear, consistent external messaging in a highly regulated environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
  • 8+ years of media relations or public relations experience.
  • Experience pitching issues and stories to top-tier and trade media outlets.
  • Outstanding communications skills (oral, written, and presentation).
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills; able to work quickly under pressure, managing and prioritizing multiple assignments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a managed care, insurance, or healthcare environment preferred.
  • Public or media relations agency experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement media and public relations strategies.
  • Represent Centene at media and public events.
  • Oversee the development of target media lists, proposals for news stories, and coordinate media interviews and speaking opportunities with company executives.
  • Develop and communicate Centene’s strategic goals and tactical responses.
  • Ensure the media distribution of press clippings are timely and efficient and cover all relevant areas, issues and subsidiaries.
  • Analyze the reporting of industry and competitive news that impact the organization, its subsidiaries and/or the industry and recommend action plans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media partners and continuously grow the positive reputation of the corporation.
  • Work closely with CCO to develop and execute high-quality media programs from conception to execution to placement.
  • Develop strong relationships with trade, national and international media.
