About The Position

This position works 43 Weeks per year, 6.75 hours per day. The position begins 5 days before school begins and continues 5 days after school is out of session. The Media Center Assistant supports students, teachers, and staff by maintaining an organized, engaging, and welcoming media center environment that promotes literacy and learning.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Experience with computers and libraries preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to write reports and general correspondence.
  • Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals and groups of educators, administrators, parents, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to always communicate using correct grammar.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and to understand abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a daily schedule for library classes and classroom visits to the media center, which may include teaching media literacy skills, reading aloud to students, and facilitating engaging Storytime and creative learning activities.
  • Support teachers and students during media center classes by assisting with classroom management and fostering a positive, respectful learning environment through proactive behavior support strategies.
  • Promote a welcoming, organized, and visually engaging media center that encourages reading, learning, and accessibility for all students.
  • Prepare instructional and media materials for specialized teaching units under the guidance of the Director and Media Center Leads.
  • Demonstrate a caring, respectful, and student-centered approach in all interactions with students, staff, and families.
  • Supervise students, alongside teachers, within the building, playground, bus area, lunch duty, or study hall assignments for up to two periods daily while utilizing positive behavior management practices.
  • Provide support for student technology resources when the Building Technician is unavailable, as appropriate.
  • Maintain media center collections, inventory, and resources in accordance with guidelines established by the Director of the Media Centers.
  • Manage, track, distribute, and maintain curriculum materials (K-8) and library resources using specialized district software and established Media Center procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Book Fund to ensure students and teachers have access to approved curriculum materials, including textbooks, workbooks, and supplemental resources, using designated software systems (K-8 only).
  • Coordinate and manage one annual book fair to promote family engagement and support media center fundraising initiatives.
  • Collect and process fees for damaged or lost library materials, textbooks, and technology using approved EVSC software systems (K-12 media center; K-8 textbooks only).
  • Operate standard school and media center equipment, including copiers, laminators, and scanners.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
