Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
  • 2+ years Customer service, call center, medical, insurance, or collections experience

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate's or Vocational degree
  • 1+ year Health care accounts receivable experience
  • 1+ year experience working with patient advocacy
  • Certified Application Counselor (CAC)-State of Minnesota with 90 days of hire required

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients, authorized representative, power of attorney, guardian and/or spouse with access to financial assistance resources by evaluating the financial situation of a patient in accordance with regulatory compliance, while maintaining patient confidentiality and ensuring financial health equity amongst the population we serve.
  • Determines eligibility for state, federal and hospital programs and provide necessary assistance in qualified programs, including gathering financial documentation needed and advocating on behalf of the patient to ensure successful enrollment.
  • Reviews hospital staff referrals and confirm patient’s discharge needs with the social worker, financial counselor, care coordinator and other appropriate hospital staff.
  • Connects with patients via phone or in the hospital or in the community to educate patients on programs they are eligible for, complete appropriate paperwork and serve as a liaison between the patient, hospital staff, state, federal and facility assistance departments.
  • Collaborates with and verify legal appointment of authorized representative, power of attorney, spouse and/or guardian to obtain additional information for patients.
  • Maintains all documentation and accuracy of patient records.
  • Submits process change requests to ensure companywide growth and development.
  • De-escalates basic situations with patients.
  • Special projects as directed by leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.
