About The Position

The Medical Technologist Lead at Nampa Medical Center is responsible for performing complex testing, resolving discrepancies, and serving as a customer service liaison. This role involves troubleshooting instruments, interpreting lab data, and acting as a trainer and mentor to other laboratory staff. The Lead Tech also plays a crucial role in scheduling, implementing new procedures, and ensuring regulatory compliance, while also being prepared to take on supervisory duties during critical situations or absences.

Requirements

  • Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or equivalent.
  • Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Medical Technologist or equivalent required.

  • Emphasis in medical technology or related science preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex testing and resolves testing discrepancies independently.
  • Accepts special projects delegated by the supervisor and completes them in a timely manner.
  • Serves as a customer service liaison, fielding phone calls from nursing units and physicians, and resolving concerns.
  • Functions as a trainer and supporter to CLAs and new Certified Laboratory Scientists.
  • Serves as a coach and a consultant to less experienced employees.
  • Correlates and interprets lab data based on knowledge of physiological conditions affecting testing results.
  • Performs complex and specialized lab analysis requiring advanced skills, technical expertise, and a broad use of independent judgment.
  • Performs complex instrument troubleshooting and consults with technical support if necessary.
  • Delegates tasks to appropriate personnel and follows through to ensure completion.
  • Functions in the role of a mentor and lead tech, serving as the laboratory resource person.
  • Interprets and consults with allied health care professionals on clinical data.
  • Communicates laboratory status to the clinical coordinator in crucial situations or downtimes.
  • Is knowledgeable and prepared to take on duties during a disaster or disaster drill, taking charge and delegating tasks as necessary.
  • Develops trust and teamwork with others, fostering an atmosphere of teamwork among staff.
  • Works to find coverage and/or shift changes to provide adequate staffing during scheduling conflicts or when personnel call in sick.
  • Informs shifts/techs of schedule changes/staffing shortages.
  • Acts as a positive role model in the lab, actively supporting lab decisions and encouraging others.
  • Establishes department schedule for review by supervisor.
  • Attends RHM meetings as assigned by the department supervisor.
  • Assists with direct observation for colleague competencies as assigned by department supervisor.
  • Performs coagulation calibrations and lot to lot change validations.
  • Implements new products, equipment, or procedures.
  • Utilizes current research and literature to evaluate and make recommendations to management for updating policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and maintains appropriate regulatory guidelines under the direction of the department supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility of laboratory supervisors in their absence.
  • May lead shift huddles.
