This is a general medical unit (Medical Specialties/Acute Inpatient) where nurses may be asked to take up to 8 patients when needed, though the standard ratio is 1:6. Experience is required, as nurses administer multiple medications and safety is a priority. The unit handles various diagnoses including respiratory issues (Covid, Pneumonia), renal problems (End stage renal disease, UTI), endocrine disorders (Diabetes), gastrointestinal issues (GI bleed, pancreatitis), dementia, altered mental status, and infectious diseases (MRSA, Cdiff). Common equipment includes IV pumps, bladder scanners, lifts, beds, O2, CPAP, and hepa machines.
