To perform all routine laboratory testing. This position involves 4 - 10 hour shifts, Friday - Monday, covering the Weekend Night shift. The role requires rotating through different bench areas of the laboratory, including evenings and weekends as needed. Responsibilities include specimen computer entry and processing, maintaining a clean work area, orienting new staff, and training MLT students. The technician will provide accurate and reproducible results for routine, complex, manual, and automated testing, utilizing critical thinking to interpret data and evaluate test results. Reporting results within established timeframes, performing independent problem-solving for patient samples, equipment, and procedures, and recognizing life-threatening results with proper notification protocols are key. The role also involves performing and understanding quality control programs, participating in Proficiency Testing and Continuing Education, and proficient operation of the LIS and other computer programs. Venipunctures and capillary sticks may be required, along with assisting in new procedure and reagent preparation. Excellent customer service to patients, families, providers, and staff is essential. The employee must greet all patients, visitors, physicians, and staff courteously and professionally, respond with empathy, and report for scheduled shifts on time and prepared. Adherence to hospital policies, including attendance, uniform, meal breaks, overtime approval, and time off requests, is mandatory. Wearing an ID badge visibly and protecting it is required. Participation in meetings, mandatory in-services, and staff meetings is expected. Identifying educational needs and maintaining appropriate skill levels through educational opportunities is crucial. A commitment to cooperation, respect, and professionalism, promoting diversity and inclusion, and preventing/resolving conflicts are expected. Adherence to HIPAA and privacy laws, as well as Infection Control procedures, including standard precautions and isolation procedures, is required. Knowledge of safety policies, hazardous material procedures, and security issues is necessary. Familiarity with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies, and the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW 21 and Mid-Valley Hospital is required. The ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations is also necessary.
