About The Position

The MedEx student internship is a work-based internship designed to provide patient care experience in a clinical setting, under the appropriate clinical supervision, after successfully completing the prerequisite courses in the Health Science Education Program of Study. The student is a high school senior selected to participate in the MedEx program in either Cabell or Wayne County. The student chooses a health career pathway for in-depth study for a Patient Care Technician or a Medical Assistant. The student intern will be part of the patient care team in the designated clinical location.

Requirements

  • Must be a current high school senior at Wayne High School, Cabell Midland High School or other high school as may be included in the Medical Explorers Program.
  • Must have successfully completed the junior year of the MedEX program.
  • Must have successfully completed the following courses: Foundations of Health Science, Advanced Principles of Health Science, Clinical Specialty I / 0790 Clinical Specialty II.
  • Must have completed at least 10 hours of job shadowing during their junior year of high school while enrolled in the MedEx Program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care experience in a clinical setting under appropriate clinical supervision.
  • Participate in the patient care team in the designated clinical location.
  • Choose a health career pathway for in-depth study for a Patient Care Technician or a Medical Assistant.
