The Medical Assistant I position involves preparing patients for examinations by performing preliminary physical tests, taking vital signs, and reporting patient history. The role also includes cleaning exam rooms, obtaining lab specimens, assisting physicians and staff, and ensuring appropriate equipment selection for specimen collection. The Medical Assistant I verifies specimen orders, prepares exam rooms, maintains supply levels and forms, and performs clerical duties such as patient registration, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing medical records. Additionally, the role involves performing electrocardiograms and point-of-care testing, verifying patient information, documenting medical information in electronic records, and coordinating with front office and ancillary staff. The Medical Assistant I assists with front office functions like checkout/in duties, claim creation, discharge paperwork, referrals, patient education, appointments, and insurance eligibility. This position also performs other clinical and clerical duties under the direction of a provider and manager across any CH office location, including cross-training for Patient Reception Rep duties. Specific tasks include NJPMP monitoring under LIP direction and performing subcutaneous or intramuscular injections in accordance with Capital Health policies. Incumbents in Primary Care or Specialty Care offices may be assigned to other Capital Health Medical Group Practices as needed.
