About The Position

We seek a Mechanical Engineer to join our team based in San Francisco building products around mechatronics and robotics. The team is small with high ownership and agency, operating as a start up within Mach Industries. The engineer in this role will develop mechanical systems end-to-end, from ideation through deployment, working with your peers to make technical and design decisions in the early stages of the product development. High level responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Anticipate challenges in actuation, kinematics, sensor integration and embedded controls in order to help keep the team moving forward Make early technical and design decisions, from part selection through tradeoffs to ensure we can build and manufacture at scale Contribute to test plans, technical documentation, and engineering reviews. Validate design and iterate hardware based on performance feedback Build proof-of-concept designs, run experiments, and communicate findings

Requirements

Foundational understanding of mechatronics, mechanism design, kinematics and dynamics
Demonstrated hands-on turning ideas into hardware, bridging theory and practicality
Experience taking ambiguous, open-ended problems and creating workable design with minimal oversight
An intrinsic curiosity about hard problems and the motivation to learn unfamiliar systems
Ability to lead reviews, influence cross-functional teams, and convey risks and solutions clearly
Experience making design decisions around 3D CAD, 2D drawings, material selection, and manufacturability

Nice To Haves

BA degree or equivalent practical experience in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, robotics, physics, or mathematics
Experience with rapid fabrication, tolerance analysis and mechanical simulation
Ability to collaborate across disciplines and evaluate tradeoffs to get a complete system working
Understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, die casting, stamping, machining, bonding)
Proven record of mechanically integrating electronics (sensors, PCBs, antennas, batteries) in complex assemblies
3+ years of experience taking hardware products from concept to production, with a portfolio of shipped mechanical designs
