About The Position

TC Energy is seeking a multiskilled, team-oriented Mechanical Technician for its USGO Heartland- Rock River Valley Area. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas compressor station and related auxiliary equipment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, and possesses excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills. This position is overtime eligible, and extended work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required on occasion without advance notice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated work experience in a related industry.
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedure.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software.
  • Working knowledge of operations and maintenance of gas engines, compressors, automatic control equipment, and other auxiliary equipment operated by internal combustion engines.
  • Ability to understand piping operating drawings.
  • Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience.
  • Ability to work self-guided with minimal supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of instrumentation and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Subject to call out on a rotational schedule and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes.
  • May be required to travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training, involving some overnight stays.
  • Subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditions.
  • Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting large-bore reciprocating engines.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines, centrifugal gas compressors, and standby generators.
  • Industrial experience in a plant environment.
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents.
  • Ability to work self-guided with minimal supervision.
  • Medium voltage electrical experience involving switchgear, frequency drives, transformers, and other medium voltage equipment associated with electrically driven compressor units.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, overhaul, and repair of compressor station equipment, including dismantling, cleaning, inspecting, repairing/replacing parts, fitting, realigning, assembling, starting up, and adjusting equipment.
  • Compile or furnish information for miscellaneous reports and forms.
  • Work from blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Inspect for gas leaks and assist in maintaining safety equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and overhaul of engines using specialized tools.
  • Troubleshoot automatic control systems (electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic), locating defective parts and correcting issues.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of the entire facility to operate, repair, train, and develop others.
  • Manage contractors and vendors while on-site.
  • Adhere to environmental policies by collecting samples.
  • Assist in the compilation of shipping manifests.
  • Assist in planning work and participate in safety and/or team meetings.
  • Coordinate with gas control regarding maintenance scheduling to ensure peak facility operation.
  • Perform valve and operator maintenance.
  • Test overpressure protection devices and unit controls.
  • Order/reorder necessary parts and supplies.
  • Test and inspect lubricating systems.
  • Execute all planned preventative maintenance on prime movers or other equipment.
  • Inspect, maintain, and fix station auxiliary equipment (air compressors, air dryers, generator, boiler).
  • Compile station operating budget and various annual operating reports.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, and create new work orders in SAP.
  • Perform LOTO on equipment.
  • Complete Job Safety Analysis for tasks.
  • Perform line locating and excavation monitoring as necessary.
  • Carry a company-provided cell phone and work a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Perform other tasks as required.
