About The Position

As a Mechanical Technician (Millwright), license preferred, you'll play a key role in maintaining the safe, reliable operation of our pipeline facilities and mechanical systems that transport refined petroleum products. Working independently, you'll apply your technical expertise to complex maintenance activities, support critical operations, mentor junior team members, and help ensure the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Red Seal Journey person with 2+ years in a related mechanical trade, oil and gas experience preferred (e.g., Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Pipefitter, Heavy Duty Mechanic.) or 10 years of oil and gas experience in a related mechanical trade.
  • A High School Diploma.
  • Extensive journey-level experience performing mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy industrial mechanical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining rotating equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, actuators, pressure relief devices (PSVs), and associated piping systems.
  • Experience coordinating and supervising contractors, including work planning, contractor oversight, and ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing work demands, and respond effectively to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, emergency response, and after-hours callouts.
  • Commitment to maintaining required regulatory, safety, Operator Qualification, and mandatory technical training.
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection, troubleshooting, testing, repair, and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, actuators, pressure relief devices (PSVs), vacuum breakers, and associated mechanical equipment, including vibration monitoring and analysis.
  • Execute mechanical maintenance activities on pipeline facilities to ensure the safe, reliable transportation of refined products.
  • Perform small- to medium-scale facility piping installation and removal, flange make-up, tubing repairs, process vessel draining/opening, and supervise welding activities within facilities.
  • Operate and maintain pig launching and receiving facilities, execute pigging activities, and perform underground single- and double-wall storage tank integrity testing, including contractor supervision where required.
  • Support product handling and measurement activities, including mechanical maintenance of product measurement equipment and, where applicable, oversee Stationary Prover Water Draw recertifications with contractors and proving specialists.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage contractor activities by developing work scopes, creating purchase requisitions, verifying orientations and trade certifications, managing Lock-Out/Tag-Out requirements, ensuring work acceptance, and completing follow-up documentation.
  • Support construction and project work through site visits, gate reviews, pre-job planning, mechanical ground disturbance planning, one-calls, line locates and obtaining required third-party agreements.
  • Issue Safe Work Permits for routine and complex work, develop and execute Job Specific Execution Plans (JSEPs), conduct tailgate meetings, perform gas testing, calibrate portable gas monitors, manage hot work activities, and complete mechanical and electrical Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership by conducting daily worksite inspections, identifying and correcting hazards, developing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), using appropriate PPE, participating in safety meetings and investigations, and stopping unsafe work when observed.
  • Respond to emergencies by participating in on-call rotations, initiating emergency response activities, acting as First Responder or On-Scene Commander when required, and participating in emergency drills and incident command activities.
  • Inspect and maintain facility security measures, including fencing, gates, doors, windows, and security camera systems, while ensuring maintenance routes, work orders, equipment calibrations, and regulatory requirements are completed and current.
  • Perform operation, testing, and maintenance of fire water and fire foam systems, complete monthly portable fire extinguisher inspections, and supervise Hydro-Vac, vacuum truck, portable pumping, and lighting equipment activities.
  • Maintain required regulatory, safety, Operator Qualification, Product Quality/Aviation Jet Fuel Standards, OEMS, and technical training to ensure all mandatory certifications remain current.
  • Act as a technical resource by mentoring junior Mechanical/Millwright Technicians, conducting job task observations and Operator Qualification evaluations (where applicable), providing day-to-day direction to contractors, and supporting knowledge transfer across the team.
  • Provide modified Supervisor relief during short-duration absences by supporting work planning, daily activity coordination, investigations, mentoring, and operational decision-making as required.
