About The Position

The Mechanical Technician V position involves leading the assembly, testing, and maintenance of the most advanced mechanical systems and components to meet required specifications. In this master role, you will work closely with engineers and lead technicians to ensure the quality and reliability of flight hardware. This position requires unparalleled expertise in mechanical principles, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to precision and safety. You will be involved in assembling major structures, performing part-fitting operations for spacecraft systems, and translating blueprints into mechanical assemblies. Additionally, your tasks will include precision drilling, using calibrated tools, bonding, troubleshooting, and developing unparalleled skills in precision cleaning and handling mechanical hardware. In this role, you will lead the work of the entire team of technicians in the most complex mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication. You will inspect, assemble, integrate, and operationally check flight hardware, as well as assemble, test, and maintain mechanical systems and components to meet specifications and standards. Utilizing the most precise measurement tools, you will ensure components meet specified tolerances while adhering to general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements. Additionally, you will follow 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness protocols, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and work in restrictive spaces. Collaboration with team members to achieve production goals will also be a key part of your responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Typically 12+ years of experience in a mechanical or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform master-level equipment setup and maintenance activities.
  • Display mechanical aptitude and competency with hand tools/precision tools.
  • Unparalleled expertise in precision cleaning.
  • Knowledge of 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness.
  • Ability to conduct verification/troubleshooting of own work and lead others.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Master understanding of mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication.
