About The Position

Design and develop mechanical systems supporting a wide variety of greenfield and brownfield furnace projects. Developed systems will be comprised of several different mechanical design aspects including: Cooling air piping, controls, and power (motors + blowers), Combustion air piping, and power (motors + blowers), Combustion fuel piping, Combustion controls (mechanical aspects; valve selection, etc…), Pneumatic piping, controls, & power systems, Hydraulic piping, controls, & power systems, Mechanical power systems including gear, belt, & chain drive systems, Industrial automation, including robotics, sensors, mechanisms, etc… Typical required supporting activities include: Creation of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, Virtual and physical validation to ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and especially NFPA industry standards, codes, and regulations, Creation of various supporting documents including operating manuals, spare parts lists, bills of materials, etc…, Documenting, Troubleshooting, & Reverse Engineering of existing furnace systems and related industrial automation. Close collaboration with other engineering disciplines and other parts of the business. This includes participation in activities such as: Design Reviews, FMEAs, Project Scheduling, Etc…

Requirements

  • B.S.: Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5 to 15 Years experience in a similar role and industry.
  • 3D Design – Inventor (Preferred) / Catia / NX / Creo / SolidWorks / Equivalent.
  • Experience with Flexible Lines Routing (hoses, tubes, conduit, etc…)
  • Experience with Piping Design (Welded, Flanged, and NPT).
  • Experience with Large BOMs and Large Scale, Complex models.
  • 2D Design & Detailing – Autocad.
  • Direct experience designing the mechanical aspects of industrial automation solutions, specifically including linkages, chain drives, belt drives, shaft connections, gearing, etc…
  • Direct experience creating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Direct experience designing hydraulic systems.
  • Direct experience designing pneumatic systems.
  • Direct experience selecting & specifying instrumentation for measuring and monitoring temperature, pressure, level, flow, etc…
  • Working knowledge of engineering calculations relating to hydraulic and pneumatic systems design.
  • Working knowledge of engineering calculations relating to shaft, gear, keyway, etc… design.
  • Working knowledge of gearbox and electric motor selection & specification.
  • Working Knowledge of ASME B31.3 (or equivalent) Process Piping Design.
  • Working Knowledge of NFPA 54 & 56 Natural Gas Piping Design.
  • Working Knowledge of NFPA 86 Oven and Furnace Design.
  • Must be able to travel, including internationally. ~15% travel estimated in this role.
  • Must be physically able to safely traverse complex industrial environments including climbing ladders, lifting 50 lbs, crawling, walking, etc…
  • Must be legally and physically able to safely operate a passenger vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Working Knowledge of ASME B31.1 (or equivalent) Power Piping Design.
  • Working Knowledge of NFPA 68 related to the design for explosion proof systems.
  • Working Knowledge of NFPA 87 Fluid Heater Design.
  • Working Knowledge of the National Electric Code as it pertains to furnaces and related industrial automation.
  • CFD Analysis Experience.
  • FEA Analysis Experience.
  • Working Knowledge of other OSHA &/or ANSI safety standards as they pertain to hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

  • Create supporting documents including operating manuals, spare parts lists, and bills of materials.
  • Document, troubleshoot, and reverse engineer existing furnace systems and related industrial automation.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and other parts of the business.
  • Participate in Design Reviews, FMEAs, and Project Scheduling.
