CanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RFBR) of Units 5–8. Building on the successful delivery of the Darlington Refurbishment Project, the CanAtom team brings proven experience in safely executing complex nuclear projects on time and on budget to support Ontario’s clean energy future. The Trade Superintendent will assist in the supervision, coordination and scheduling of construction activities on the SGR project for multiple scopes of work in compliance with the contract and the job cost estimate and ensures all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship. They are accountable for direct execution of the construction work in their scope. While on shift they report to the CanAtom Shift Supervisor. Functionally the Superintendent reports to the SGR Construction Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of construction and subcontractor supervision experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements.
  • Experience in managing major refurbishment or complex nuclear projects.
  • Experience managing and working in a large joint venture.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints and specifications.
  • Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
  • Ability to manage organizational vision and purpose.
  • Remains composed and effective when working in high-pressure situations.
  • Manages conflict professionally and works toward constructive resolutions.
  • Motivates others to achieve team and organizational objectives.
  • Provides coaching and support to develop the skills and capabilities of direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the General Foreperson and Foreperson executing on shift.
  • Monitor plans/schedules and identify risks and issues.
  • Create collaboration and partnering with OPG, Engineering, Quality, and the OCC.
  • Responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of safety, quality and human performance programs.
  • Ensure that Joint Venture and Client policies and project procedures are being adhered to and followed by project personnel.
  • Utilize project master schedule, detailed look-ahead schedules and plans for general foreman, foreman and subcontractor use.
  • Monitor and manage risks, develop recovery strategies when project schedule or budget are in jeopardy in collaboration with the CSS.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of direct hire trade labour and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and tools and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Ensure the project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Field Work Packages (FWPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and project schedule and budget.
  • Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
  • Ensure the project is constructed in accordance with QA Programs and project quality requirements.
