Mechanical Superintendent

PRAETORIAN POWER PROTECTION LLCSparks, NV
Onsite

About The Position

Praetorian Power Protection, the leader in NETA testing and staff augmentation to the mission critical industry, is seeking a veteran Mechanical Commissioning Superintendent to lead the testing and integration of complex HVAC and cooling systems within mission-critical data center environments. You will be responsible for ensuring that high-density cooling infrastructure—from chilled water plants to liquid cooling systems—is validated, optimized, and ready for 100% uptime.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical commissioning, HVAC field engineering, or mechanical project management.
  • Direct experience in Data Center construction or commissioning is mandatory.
  • Deep technical knowledge of chilled water systems, DX systems, evaporative cooling, and piping infrastructure.
  • Coordinate the execution of scripts with the Commissioning Authority and associated vendors/subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA standards and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for mechanical systems.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in electrical commissioning or electrical construction management.
  • Proven track record working specifically on Data Center projects or similar mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong background in low voltage (LV) systems, including fire alarm, security, and controls/monitoring systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Liquid Cooling or Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx) in high-density environments.
  • Certification from ACG, NEBB, or BCxA (CCP).
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam and commissioning management software (e.g., CxAlloy).
  • Strong leadership skills with a "boots-on-the-ground" approach to problem-solving.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Familiarity with commissioning software platforms (e.g., CxAlloy, Bluebeam, or Procore).
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical issues for non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full commissioning lifecycle (L1–L5), specifically focused on Mechanical, Plumping, and Fire Protection (MPF) systems.
  • Direct the functional performance testing (FPT) of CRAHs/CRACs, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and AHUs.
  • Lead integrated systems testing (IST) using load banks to simulate server heat loads and verify cooling redundancy.
  • Partner with controls technicians to validate Building Management System (BMS) sequences of operation and alarm notifications.
  • Analyze P&IDs, sequences of operation, and mechanical specifications to identify potential points of failure before site mobilization.
  • Manage the mechanical punch list, working closely with mechanical contractors to resolve deficiencies and perform re-testing.
  • Direct the Level 1 through Level 5 (L1-L5) commissioning process, specifically focusing on the integration of low-voltage systems and critical power infrastructure.
  • Manage the onsite testing of UPS systems, switchgear, PDU/RPP units, and EPMS/BMS integrations.
  • Review design drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure "buildability" and compliance with data center redundancy requirements (N+1, 2N).
  • Author and execute detailed Commissioning Scripts (Scripts/FPTs) and Final Commissioning Reports.
  • Maintain rigorous punch-list tracking and resolution.
  • Enforce strict NFPA 70E standards and electrical safety protocols during energized testing phases.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the client, MEP contractors, and equipment vendors to maintain the project schedule and resolve technical roadblocks.

Benefits

  • 5x10 schedule (the last 10 hours are overtime)
  • 7 days per week per-diem
  • 11 holidays with a floating holiday
  • Medical, dental and vision
  • PTO
  • And more
