About The Position

AlphaHire is recruiting on behalf of an established mechanical contractor specializing in commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The Mechanical Project Manager oversees commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through installation and closeout, with direct ownership of project budgets, schedules, field execution, subcontractor performance, and client relationships. The role requires strong commercial mechanical construction experience and the ability to deliver projects while maintaining quality, safety, and profitability.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of project management experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical contracting, or commercial mechanical construction.
  • Proven experience owning commercial mechanical projects from preconstruction through closeout, with responsibility for project outcomes rather than coordination or administrative support alone.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC installation, mechanical systems, construction drawings, specifications, and field operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with project budgets, job costing, scheduling, RFIs, change orders, and subcontractor management.
  • Proficiency with construction project management software, scheduling tools, and standard office applications.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications and resolve technical issues with field teams and design professionals.
  • Experience working directly with general contractors, owners, engineers, and inspectors on active commercial construction projects.
  • Direct commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting experience is required; residential-only HVAC experience does not meet the requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial HVAC and mechanical projects from preconstruction and estimating handoff through installation, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, and labor plans to meet contractual deadlines and profitability goals.
  • Oversee field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain productivity, installation quality, and jobsite safety.
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and equipment selections to identify scope gaps and resolve construction issues.
  • Manage RFIs, change orders, procurement, and project documentation to minimize delays and control costs.
  • Track job costs, labor hours, material expenses, and subcontractor costs, and implement corrective actions when projects deviate from budget.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for general contractors, owners, engineers, inspectors, and internal field teams.
  • Monitor permitting, inspections, equipment deliveries, startup, testing, and commissioning to keep projects on schedule.
  • Drive project closeout, including punch lists, turnover documentation, warranty items, and final client handoff.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, and other company-sponsored programs.
