About The Position

This posting is for a Test Engineer role in the FCCC Product Validation Engineering team. The primary function of this position is to validate engineering design by testing chassis components, chassis systems and completed vehicles. Candidate in the position will plan, schedule, organize, lead, execute and report results of test activities related to vehicle dynamics, engine cooling and performance, braking, steering, chassis structure, and vehicle electrical systems at on-site and off-site locations. Successful candidates will apply the theoretical principles, engineering techniques and practical experience towards validation testing to confirm that vehicles that are safe, compliant, reliable, serviceable, energy efficient and competitive using the latest technology available in the industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university and 2-4 years of relevant test experience.
  • Working knowledge of test instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis software and testing methodology as well as experience resolving field and customer issues required.
  • Ability to instrument a vehicle component for data acquisition and subsequent analysis and troubleshooting experience required.
  • A commercial driver's license with passenger and air endorsement or the ability to obtain a CDL required.
  • Must be willing and able to meet DTNA DOT Compliance requirements.
  • Must be willing to travel and work flexible hours.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of related experience preferred
  • Automated component testing experience using servo-hydraulics/PLC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, conduct and coordinate full vehicle and mechanical system functional performance, fuel economy, durability, mechanisms and reliability testing, including material testing and failure analysis, as well as crash certification testing.
  • Develop test plans and methodologies for identifying objectives, applicable standards, manpower requirements, required test equipment, calibration procedures, and vehicle allocations, and create detailed test procedures when existing procedures do not exist.
  • Devise and implement test methodologies, test fixtures and procedures by leveraging highly specialized instrumentation tools, climatic wind tunnel and cold chambers, mechanisms, hydraulic and pneumatic power sources to execute the required tests.
  • Gather and correlate to customer field data in establishing the test cases.
  • Utilize fundamental mechanical engineering foundation and practical electronic & mechanical control system principles to conduct the required testing.
  • Analyze test results and undertake root cause analysis of failures and/or design shortcomings requiring corrective action, proposing changes to improve component design and/or vehicle system performance.
  • Document test results with conclusions and recommendations via formal reports and presentations to responsible parties and Engineering Management, and ensure project documentation of tests and recommendations are accurate, concise, and quickly distributed to responsible stakeholders for immediate action.
  • Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable performance, durability and reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
  • May also be involved with setting up and coordinating product specific assessment activities, workshops and/or ride & drives.
  • Operate all vehicles and maintain test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Provide engineering technical assistance to personnel within and outside of the department.
  • Actively pursue advancements in tools related to testing and measurement, and proactively maintain a transparent environment that fosters efficiency, a high state of morale and teamwork.
