About The Position

The Mechanical Process Technician will participate in the development of innovative technology at the ELYSIS US Research & Development facility, located at the Alcoa Technical Center (ATC) in New Kensington, PA. This role is part of a development team focused on the production, processing, testing, and scale-up of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques. The technician will assist with equipment operation, process development, and R&D experiments, contributing to a revolutionary, carbon-free aluminum smelting process that emits oxygen as a byproduct. This technology, a partnership between Alcoa and Rio Tinto, aims to drastically reduce the environmental footprint of the global aluminum industry.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Strong aptitude in a skilled trade (e.g., vocational training in mechanical, electrical, automotive, HVAC, carpentry, welding, or plumbing)
  • 2+ years work experience in an industrial environment with emphasis on material handling
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented and learning environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrate strong safety focus according to Alcoa EHS standards, protocols and tools
  • Ability to train and work with resources within and outside the program team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills: MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, JMP, MS Access or other database
  • Strong documentation, organization and analytical skills for data management, analysis, and results presentation

Responsibilities

  • Leading and executing tasks including material batching, material handling (e.g., equipment loading and unloading), and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Preparing and testing samples for chemical composition and physical properties using laboratory analytical equipment.
  • Disassembling, repairing, and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Developing and maintaining safe work instructions and working in compliance with all Alcoa EHS best practices.
  • Operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment.
  • Coordinating activities related to projects, ensuring documentation, schedule, and metrics are met.
  • Coordinating the execution of designed experiments.
  • Recording and analyzing data.
  • Interpreting and communicating results and observations to other team members.
