About The Position

This role will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future. The UPF project has multiple work schedules that are subject to change and may require employees to work overtime, weekends and/or night shift when a business need arises. This is a short-term position. Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; the successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD and/or commercial nuclear projects.
  • Good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as ASME, B31.1, B31.3, as well as NQA-1 requirements.
  • Familiarity with industry quality standards.
  • Must meet the project requirements for certification of a Level II Mechanical/Piping QC and be capable of achieving a Level II Mechanical/Piping QC certification.
  • Must meet the project requirements for certification of a Level II Visual Welding QC and be capable of achieving a Level II Visual Welding QC certification.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Knowledge and experience of performing inspections in the civil discipline on construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leads activities of subordinate quality control engineers, and other Inspection personnel, as assigned.
  • Issues and controls measuring and test equipment (M&TE). May perform calibration of M&TE. May lead the M&TE team.
  • Implements quality control procedures and establishes detailed schedules for onsite inspection activities.
  • Determines requirements for, and may direct preparation of, technical and administrative documents and reports.
  • Generally assigned to a single discipline activity interfacing with a multidiscipline operation.
  • Within assigned area, monitors the operations for adherence to project plans and specifications to ensure quality control compliance.
  • Monitors subcontractors’ and suppliers’ workmanship, installation of material and equipment for quality control compliance.
  • Performs inspection functions in accordance with the inspection plan, monitors inspection duties assigned to subcontractors and reviews results of inspections.
  • Inspects and documents acceptance of construction activities and installations.
  • Identifies nonconforming items and corrective action requirements.
