Mechanical Piping Designer

McElroy ManufacturingTulsa, OK

About The Position

We’re looking for a Mechanical Piping Designer who’s ready to take the lead on designing fusible thermoplastic piping systems and custom mechanical assemblies for industrial, municipal, energy, and mission-critical applications. This is a role where your creativity meets real-world impact. You’ll be at the center of our design and production process — creating, refining, and supporting piping systems from concept to installation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or similar
  • 3+ years of mechanical piping design or piping layout experience
  • Strong CAD skills (intermediate required, advanced preferred)
  • Solid understanding of piping systems, assemblies, and mechanical design principles
  • Experience creating detailed fabrication/manufacturing drawings
  • Background in skid design or custom industrial equipment
  • Familiarity with ASME/ASTM/ISO piping standards
  • Hands-on experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or field installation
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to juggle customer needs, project timelines, and organizational priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HDPE, thermoplastic, or fusible piping systems (big plus)

Responsibilities

  • Build detailed 3D models, piping layouts, and fabrication fixtures for fusible piping systems
  • Design custom assemblies including manifolds, skids, transitions, supports, and more
  • Apply industry standards (ASME, ASTM, ISO) to ensure safe, reliable, compliant designs
  • Produce manufacturing drawings, BOMs, cut lists, and installation documentation
  • Translate customer and site requirements into practical, buildable solutions
  • Partner with manufacturing to optimize designs for fabrication and assembly
  • Select valves, fittings, and system components based on performance and code requirements
  • Support projects from concept through production alongside engineering, PMs, and sales
  • Participate in prototype builds, troubleshoot production issues, and drive continuous improvement
  • Help standardize design practices and templates
  • Provide technical support during field installations
  • Bring a friendly, service-oriented mindset to every interaction
  • Promote safety and good housekeeping — always

Benefits

  • You get to design systems that actually get built
  • You’ll collaborate with smart, supportive teammates across engineering, manufacturing, and project teams
  • You’ll see your work come to life — from 3D model to prototype to field installation
  • You’ll have a direct impact on safety, quality, and innovation
  • You’ll work in an environment that values craftsmanship, curiosity, and continuous improvement
