Job Summary The Crystal Growth and Manufacturing team is responsible for producing components for many internal groups within the IPG Photonics organization. This team will fabricate critical optical components and other materials to the highest level of quality and efficiency possible. This Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer role will support production, new product development, drafting prints, tooling design, reporting, and much more.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 0-2 years related experience.
  • Must have experience with CAD (SolidWorks).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to interpret part drawings and understand geometric dimensions & tolerances.
  • Understands when to request guidance from supervisors and proper chain of command.
  • Self-starter, with demonstrated ability to follow-through and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to interact with customers, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities is necessary.
  • Must be able to work in a cross-functional team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding optical components, fabrication and polishing of optical materials is a Plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, sustain, and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Support process development for fabricating new materials and components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with equipment to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Create and maintain part drawings according to specific format through use of Solidworks.
  • Manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) for each product processed through department.
  • Improve yields and reduce manufacturing cost through process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues to determine root cause in production or in returned product in conjunction with manufacturing and quality staff.
  • Assist in the training of new operators according to documented standard procedures.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for the department.
  • Design custom tooling/fixtures to support production operation.
  • Investigate new equipment and implement automation to improve quality and efficiency
