About The Position

At Charter Steel, our maintenance team is the backbone of our operation, keeping everything running smoothly. They tackle a variety of challenges, from installing and maintaining equipment to troubleshooting complex problems and executing preventive maintenance plans. This position follows our 5-2-2-5 rotating night shift schedule. You’ll work five nights on, five nights off, two nights on, two nights off —giving you a great work-life balance with regular extended breaks. Shifts are 12 hours, starting at 4:30 PM and ending at 4:30 AM. It’s a consistent, predictable rotation that gives you built-in time off without using PTO.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience
  • Machining and welding
  • Hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, and plumbing
  • Power transmission systems, including bearings, gearing, conveyors, fans, shaft alignment, sprockets, and coupling.
  • Experience with overhead crane troubleshooting and repair
  • Proficient in rigging and lifting procedures
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers
  • A true team player with strong problem-solving abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman Certification or completion of a formal apprenticeship program
  • Hands-on experience with SMAW, MIG, and/or TIG welding
  • Previous work experience in the steel or heavy manufacturing industry
  • Fabrication skills and a basic understanding of electrical systems
  • Up-to-date safety certifications and a strong awareness of industry-standard safety practices

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and maintain a wide range of mechanical systems to keep operations running smoothly
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) and equipment calibrations to optimize performance and reliability
  • Work hands-on with hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and power transmission systems
  • Safely operate and maintain industrial tools and mobile equipment including cranes and forklifts
  • Partner with Electrical Maintenance Technicians to tackle cross-functional maintenance tasks
  • Always prioritize safety by strictly adhering to protocols such as lockout/tagout, fall protection, and confined space entry procedures
