Mechanical Maintenance Technician
About The Position
Charter Manufacturing is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for their Cleveland Rolling Mill night shift. This role is crucial for supporting plant operations by ensuring the optimal functioning of mechanical systems. The technician will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting complex issues, and executing repairs on a variety of equipment including hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, gearboxes, overhead cranes, and power transmission equipment. Collaboration with the electrical maintenance team is expected, contributing to a safe and efficient work environment. The position is in an industrial setting with exposure to various environmental conditions and requires meeting specific physical demands.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (free GED program available)
- 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience
- Expertise in hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, welding, machining, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read blueprints and use technical manuals
- Safe operation of forklifts, cranes, and aerial lift platforms
- Basic math and computer skills
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
Nice To Haves
- Journeyman certification or apprenticeship completion
- Welding experience (SMAW, MIG, and/or TIG)
- Steel industry experience
- Basic understanding of electrical drives
- Safety awareness training
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment across the facility
- Analyze test results, error messages, and operator feedback to diagnose and resolve issues
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, calibrations, installations, and equipment support
- Collaborate with Electrical Maintenance Technicians to ensure safe and efficient operations
- Maintain accuracy within the parts inventory system
- Utilize machining centers to fabricate or modify parts as needed
- Comply with all Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System procedures and requirements
- Fulfill all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation, as outlined in the job description
