About The Position

This position oversees the Melt Shop Mechanical maintenance department and reports to the Melt Shop Superintendent. The role involves planning and directing safety, work, and training for all assigned employees. The supervisor is responsible for overseeing a shift engaged in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and facilities in the melt shop at the Beaumont Mill location. The primary responsibility is supervising a crew involved in breakdown, rebuild, and preventive maintenance programs to minimize production downtime. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and installation of melt shop equipment and systems, including cranes, scrap handling equipment, and other service equipment. This role also includes implementing and setting priorities for the preventive maintenance program, covering various mechanical systems and HVAC equipment. The supervisor is accountable for subordinate selection, training, evaluation, discipline, motivation, and safety, ensuring employee compliance with safety procedures. Key challenges include minimizing production downtime through effective scheduling and planning, monitoring work in progress, anticipating problems, investigating equipment performance issues, and taking corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Four year college degree in Engineering, Business Administration or Material Science.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with exposure to standardization and production quality methods.
  • Formalized mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic training.
  • 8 to 10 years experience in heavy mechanical maintenance.
  • Extensive orientation period to the Beaumont Melt Shop equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of the business system.
  • Knowledge of the use of complex technical and engineering processes.
  • Ability to train and guide people.
  • Solid presentation abilities.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • People management skills.
  • Experienced working in extreme weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct safety, work, and training for all assigned employees.
  • Supervise assigned shift engaged in maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and facilities.
  • Supervise a crew engaged in breakdown, rebuild, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Perform maintenance and installation of melt shop equipment and systems (mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic), including cranes, scrap handling equipment, and other service equipment.
  • Implement and set priorities for the preventive maintenance program, including Mechanical transformers, substitutions, Melt Shop Mechanical equipment, overhead crane Mechanical systems, PLC’s, and Melt Shop HVAC equipment.
  • Responsible for subordinate selection, training, evaluation, discipline, motivation, and safety.
  • Ensure employee compliance with established safety procedures.
  • Minimize production downtime by proper scheduling and planning of work.
  • Check work in progress to ensure proper maintenance is being performed.
  • Anticipate problems and investigate inadequate equipment performance and take corrective action.
