About The Position

The Mechanical Lead is responsible for overseeing the installation, coordination, and execution of mechanical systems on semiconductor and high-tech construction projects. This role provides technical leadership to field personnel and subcontractors while ensuring mechanical work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards and schedule requirements. The Mechanical Lead serves as the primary field resource for mechanical construction activities, coordinating with project management, engineering, procurement, and other trades to deliver successful project outcomes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or trade certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of mechanical construction experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Experience in semiconductor, cleanroom, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, or industrial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical piping systems, HVAC, process utilities, and equipment installation.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and construction best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective communication with field personnel, clients, and project leadership.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules and coordinate work accordingly.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with semiconductor fabrication facility construction.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Knowledge of BIM, Navisworks, AutoCAD, or Bluebeam.
  • Experience coordinating commissioning and startup activities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Procore, or other construction management software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily mechanical construction activities on active project sites.
  • Supervise mechanical craft personnel, subcontractors, and field crews.
  • Plan and coordinate installation of piping systems, HVAC, process utilities, equipment, supports, and related mechanical systems.
  • Monitor field productivity and ensure work is completed according to project schedules.
  • Conduct daily field walks to verify installation quality, safety compliance, and project progress.
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts, constructability concerns, and installation issues.
  • Ensure all mechanical work complies with project drawings, specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Support equipment setting, rigging activities, system startup, testing, commissioning, and final turnover.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, and other construction disciplines.
  • Participate in project meetings, scheduling discussions, and subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Review construction drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, isometric drawings, and mechanical plans prior to installation.
  • Coordinate RFIs, field changes, design revisions, and redline drawings.
  • Monitor material deliveries and identify shortages or procurement concerns that could impact schedules.
  • Assist with project scheduling, look-ahead planning, and milestone tracking.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings with field personnel.
  • Verify installations meet quality standards and client specifications.
  • Participate in inspections, punch walks, and quality audits.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of completed work and field reports.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to field teams while coordinating mechanical construction activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Lead and mentor mechanical field personnel and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Quality, Safety, Logistics, and Commissioning teams.
  • Coordinate installation sequencing with electrical, structural, plumbing, controls, fire protection, and process utility teams.
  • Support project planning by identifying risks and recommending practical field solutions.
  • Foster strong communication between office staff, field teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Assist with training and development of junior field personnel.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the project.
  • Build positive working relationships with customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
