About The Position

As an Mechanical Design Professional Intern in the Industrial Manufacturing Market you’ll play a key role in supporting the firm and shaping projects that make a difference—from concept through completion. You’ll collaborate with talented teammates, contribute your expertise, and help us deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions for those we serve. Internships offer invaluable hands-on experience to enhance your knowledge and understanding of your chosen career path. At Shive-Hattery, you’ll be treated as a full-time staff member with access to the same opportunities for learning and growth. You’ll work on actual client projects, where your contributions will directly impact both Shive-Hattery and the community. This experience will help expand your professional skill set and strengthen your portfolio, setting you up for future success. As an intern, you will be paired with a mid-to-senior level employee who will serve as your mentor. This mentor/mentee relationship is designed to foster a supportive environment where you can candidly discuss your career goals and aspirations. Our one-on-one informal mentoring approach fosters the development of professional relationships that complement your academic learning, enriching your overall internship experience. You will work on a variety of project types including Industrial, Commercial, and Health Care. These experiences will provide insights into the profession, collaborative teamwork, and serving the needs of our clients.

Requirements

  • Currently attending an accredited engineering school for a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an HVAC emphasis.
  • Strong desire to design building HVAC, piping, & plumbing systems.
  • Collaborates with other team members in a professional environment and have good interpersonal skills.
  • Communicates effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Manages time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to engineering detail.
  • A full clean driver’s license is required.
  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, or Immigration Status Requirements: Candidates must have current and ongoing authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 3D modeling software, Revit is desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is desired.
  • Ability to develop new technical approaches.
  • Proven leadership of small teams and coordination efforts.
  • Strong integration of analysis tools into design workflow.
