About The Position

Avion Solutions Inc., a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking candidates for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the Propulsion Drives Branch of the Maneuver Air Directorate. This position provides foundational engineering support for analysis, testing, and documentation of Helicopter Drive Systems and is located in Huntsville, AL.

Requirements

• Must be a Junior or higher, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of fundamental engineering principles, system design concepts, and development methods.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Ability to gather data, perform routine technical calculations, and summarize findings in clear, concise reports.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with foundational technical writing capability.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a DoW security clearance.
• Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with engineering modeling, analysis, or data visualization software (e.g., MATLAB, CAD, ANSYS, SolidWorks).
• Ability to perform detailed information search, correlation, interpretation of technical data, and the preparation of technical documentation.
• Strong interest in analytics.

Responsibilities

• Provide entry-level analytical and technical support for engineering projects, systems, and sub-systems.
• Assist in reviewing test plans, test reports, and technical data for compliance with project and specification requirements.
• Participate in engineering test witnessing, data collection, post-test evaluations, and hardware inspections.
• Review design documentation, engineering change proposals, and technical drawings for accuracy and technical completeness.
• Assist with root cause analysis, failure investigations, and defect reporting for components and mechanical/electrical assemblies.
• Support technical document reviews, including technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and standard operating procedures.
• Participate in project reviews, technical syncs, and team engineering meetings.
• Assist in documenting engineering processes, methodologies, and technical analyses in standard electronic formats (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Perform information searches, correlate technical data, and conduct preliminary trade studies to support ongoing engineering projects.
• Other duties as assigned.
