The Mechanical Integrity Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of the mechanical integrity program (MIP) to ensure safe and reliable operation of fixed assets. This position will determine equipment maintenance strategies (EMS) and select the appropriate non-destructive examination (NDE) and predictive maintenance (PdM) technologies to best inspect and evaluate equipment condition. It will support the maintenance team in the planning and execution of all mechanical integrity-related work. Additionally, the role will support the site capital plan including providing technical expertise to capital projects, providing input into the 3- and 5-year capital plans for equipment upgrade and replacement needs, and executing capital projects directly related to mechanical integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in engineering or engineering technology; mechanical preferred.
  • 5 years experience as a maintenance, reliability, or mechanical integrity engineer operating within a chemical plant.
  • Proven success in leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with industry codes and standards: API 510, 570, and 653; API 620 and 650; API 2000; ASME B31.3, and ASME BPVC Section VIII standards
  • Experience with Mechanical Integrity repair, inspection and modification as well as work quality management.
  • Technical knowledge of metallurgy, construction drawings, welding procedures, fabrication methods and quality management
  • Knowledge of corrosion and various damage mechanisms associated with fixed equipment failure.
  • Modern inspection technologies and limitations (drones, visual, ultrasonic/UT, guided wave, IRIS, X-ray, etc.)
  • Fitness for service methodology and analysis
  • Practical application of reliability strategies including spares management, RCM, RCFA, FMEA, and criticality analysis.
  • CMMS software; SAP preferred

  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Certification in industrial maintenance and reliability (CMRP, CRE, or CMRT)
  • Certified Pressure Vessel, Above Ground Storage Tank, or Piping Inspector

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with Maintenance & Reliability personnel for the implementation of various asset management strategies.
  • Serves as a site subject matter expert for Mechanical Integrity (MI) and Fixed Asset Management.
  • Develops and maintains mechanical integrity programs for pressure vessels, piping, tanks, heat exchangers, pressure relief valves, etc.
  • Performs Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) assessments and establishes inspection intervals per API standards.
  • Supports Fitness-for-Service (FFS) evaluations and corrosion analysis to ensure continued safe operation
  • Oversees all inspections, analyzes inspection data, and implements reliability improvements for static equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA PSM, API 510/570/653, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Leads root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for integrity-related incidents.
  • Provides engineering support to capital and expense projects for tank/vessel design and selection, PSV sizing, heat exchanger design, etc.
  • Provides technical support for turnaround planning and execution related to fixed equipment.
  • Provides leadership and technical oversight for the site's criticality analysis and ranking system for utility and process systems.
  • Develops engineering solutions to maintenance problems, including methods of reducing or eliminating the need for maintenance through equipment replacement or improvement work.
  • Scopes, estimates, and manages smaller capital projects (<$250K) related to maintenance and reliability functions for process equipment and plant infrastructure, while ensuring capital projects are completed within the defined parameters for quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Assists in updating drawings and maintenance data, coordinating this effort with production and project engineering resources.
  • Participates on teams with operations, engineering, and maintenance team to identify, prioritize, and execute plant improvement opportunities.
  • Supports other plant and departmental initiatives as directed by management.
