Mechanical Inspector (Code Enforcement)

About The Position
Works under general supervision of the Senior Inspector to make inspections to enforce and/or insure conformance to Codes of Memphis and Shelby County Code Enforcement.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of experience in the mechanical HVAC and/or Gas trade industry; OR Five (5) years of experience in the building construction industry
- High school diploma or GED
- Must obtain ICC Certified Mechanical Inspector credentials in Residential and Commercial within one year of hire date with one of the two within six months of hire date.
- Must have a valid Tennessee "Class D" Driver's License or secure on upon date of employment
- Must possess State Fire Marshal Mechanical Inspector Certification or obtain same within one (1) year of hire date.
- General computer usage experience and skills.
Nice To Haves
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of applicable Mechanical HVAC and/or Gas codes and ordinances.
- Ability to make decisions and tactfully interact with disgruntled customers.
- Ability to perform field inspections and investigations using Mechanical HVAC and/or Gas Codes.
Responsibilities
- Performs field inspections according to inspection procedures and the Mechanical HVAC & Gas codes.
- Investigates and answer complaints.
- Recommends corrective actions regarding Code Violations.
- Documents inspections approval or denial utilizing assigned technical equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed
