About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Systems division is seeking a Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) Level 2/3 Engineer to join the Mechanical & Environmental Test Engineering Department in Redondo Beach, CA. MGSE is non-flight hardware essential for the integration, test, and launch of spacecraft. This role involves developing design solutions for space flight hardware in clean room environments, encompassing requirements definition, design, structural analysis, 2D drawing creation, manufacturing support, and the development of technical work instructions. The position requires an intermediate understanding of GD&T, engineering drawing standards, and bolted joints/welding, along with strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills to drive alignment and meet deadlines while prioritizing quality and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 2 years of experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 0 years of experience (for Level 2)
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 5 years of experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 3 years of experience (for Level 3)
  • Experience in working on multi-disciplinary teams, preferably within Integration, Test, and Launch (IT&L) or Manufacturing environment
  • ASME Y14.5 experience
  • First order structural analysis experience
  • Preliminary and critical design review (PDR and CDR) development experience
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills
  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance required at time of application.
  • Previously held an active SCI clearance within the last 12 months
  • Intermediate understanding of GD&T in accordance with (IAW) ASME Y14.5
  • Engineering and drawing development IAW ASME Y14.
  • Intermediate knowledge of bolted joints and welding of aluminum and steel structures IAW AWS Standards.

  • Active Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance
  • Experience with design of MGSE
  • Experience with manufacturing or integration of P093 program hardware
  • Intermediate understanding of Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience developing support equipment to be used at the Eastern or Western Range
  • Design for manufacturing (DFM) experience
  • Experience developing support equipment for use in Thermal Vacuum
  • Experience developing over the road or over the air satellite transportation equipment
