About The Position

ESAB Corporation, a global leader in fabrication technology and gas control solutions, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Denton, TX. This role supports L-TEC Steel Industry Products, a pioneer in scarfing machines and steel conditioning equipment. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for exceptional CAD design work, engineering design support, and assisting customers with design-related inquiries. The position involves creating and modifying 3D models, converting legacy drawings, implementing drawing control systems, and providing design input for various systems including fluid control, structural components, and motion/actuation systems. Additionally, the role will evolve to include serving as a technical liaison for customers, installing, starting up, repairing, and supporting Steel Industry Products (SIP) globally. This includes diagnosing malfunctions, performing maintenance, testing equipment, and providing both on-site and remote customer support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and at least one 2D CAD system.
  • Experience with Windchill or similar PLM systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial machinery design.
  • Experience creating and managing engineering documentation standards.
  • Strong understanding of fluid control systems and mechanical design principles.
  • Ability to interpret and convert legacy drawings into modern CAD formats.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across time zones.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Visio).
  • Understanding of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 drawing standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and on-time delivery.
  • Leadership capability to direct work and guide others; self-starter able to work independently or in a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with steel industry processes; prior experience working in a steel mill is preferred.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing and/or field installation of equipment preferred.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments (steel mills/machine tools experience is beneficial).

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks.
  • Convert legacy 2D PDF drawings into accurate 3D models.
  • Implement and maintain a drawing control system using Windchill.
  • Provide design input and support for scarfing machine systems, which include: Fluid Control Systems (valves, piping, flow regulation), Structural Components (frames, supports, and mechanical assemblies), and Motion and Actuation Systems (pneumatic positioning mechanisms).
  • Serve as a technical liaison for customers, assisting with design-related inquiries and documentation.
  • Install, start up, repair, and support SIP products globally, primarily scarfing machines and related equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and implement software/hardware fixes.
  • Test faulty equipment using knowledge of electronic/electromechanical systems; resolve deviations from design specifications.
  • Provide on-site and remote customer support between projects, including technical phone support and troubleshooting.
