This position will be responsible for oversight and execution of the estimating process for project bids; and following establish standard procedures, methods, processes, and software requirements for estimating. All candidates must be organized, self-motivated, and have demonstrated skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in mechanical estimating.
  • Experience in various market sectors, including federal government, commercial, and medical are needed.
  • The number of years of experience in mechanical estimation and in the mechanical trade will be considered
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently on projects from $50K to $10M
  • Strong understanding of mechanical HVAC systems, plumbing systems and components
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Willingness to work closely in a team environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations
  • Experience with design build and design bid build RFPs
  • Ability to develop competitive price proposals on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with computer software to include MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Unrestricted driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel to project sites that may require overnight stays.
  • Must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including but not limited to, hard hats, steel-toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust vision.
  • Must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering or a related field is desired.
  • ProEst or similar experience desirable.
  • Utilizing mechanical estimating software to prepare accurate cost estimates is a plus
  • Willingness and the ability to walk project sites to gather information needed to complete a detailed estimate

Responsibilities

  • Develop pricing model per RFP requirements.
  • Develop general and special conditions costs.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze project plans and specifications to create detailed cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to determine the scope of work.
  • Utilize estimating software to prepare accurate cost estimates.
  • Evaluate and select suitable materials and equipment for projects.
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals for mechanical projects.
  • Communicate with suppliers and contractors to obtain pricing information.
  • Review constructability issues with key operational staff.
  • Assist with review of subcontractor proposals to ensure scope coverage; and identify scope gap.
  • Maintain and communicate data on construction and material cost trends.
  • Ensure pricing model data accuracy.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members.
  • Ensure effective transfer of awarded projects to field operation staff.
  • Effectively communicate price proposal development process to senior management.
  • Create/manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
  • Professionally communicate in highly stressed environments.
  • Provide support during project implementation to ensure estimated costs are adhered to.
