About The Position

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of the estimating process, from preconstruction planning to final bid submission. This role requires a high degree of technical expertise, analytical ability, and independent judgment in interpreting design documents, preparing conceptual and detailed cost estimates, and recommending value-engineered solutions. The estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive bids in line with CEC’s operational goals.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and applicable codes.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam, and estimating software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Comfortable leading discussions with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Flexible and team-oriented; capable of adapting to shifting project demands.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Must pass background and drug screenings.
  • Must adhere to company standards regarding attendance, communication, and professionalism.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of direct estimating experience, or 3 years of relevant mechanical estimating experience in commercial or industrial construction.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical scopes.
  • Develop conceptual estimates based on schematic designs or preliminary plans.
  • Perform accurate and organized material and labor quantity take-offs using estimating software and Excel-based models.
  • Prepare and assemble bid packages by trade, including subcontractor scopes, vendor quotes, and supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals to ensure scope alignment and cost accuracy.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and propose value engineering alternatives.
  • Lead or participate in scope review and clarification meetings with internal teams and clients.
  • Generate cost breakdowns, recaps, and final pricing sheets for management review.
  • Collaborate with business development and operations teams to ensure accurate proposal content and transition of awarded projects.
  • Create proposal letters and formal bid submissions in accordance with project timelines.
  • Stay current with ADA regulations, local codes, and industry standards that may impact cost or design.
  • Utilize tools such as Bluebeam to overlay drawings and identify changes or scope discrepancies.
  • Monitor the status of bid opportunities, provide accurate forecasts of potential awards, and maintain consistent communication with clients.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of vendors, subcontractors, material pricing, and historical cost information.
  • Ensure compliance with company estimating procedures, internal controls, and risk mitigation practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and project goals.
