About The Position

The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices. Purpose of Position Provide engineering support for all plant production and facility equipment to support daily operations while leading projects that improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance quality, or increase throughput.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, mechatronics, industrial, robotics, or related field.
Minimum 3 years of engineering experience
Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to apply hands-on experience across a wide range of applications.
Experience supporting or leading technical projects.
Skilled in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, and drawing actionable conclusions from data.
Results-driven with a high level of commitment to achieving goals.
Ability to work extended hours as required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
U.S. citizen status (required for government contract compliance at this location).

Nice To Haves

Proficient in AutoCad, Solidworks, or similar CAD software
Experience with MS Office, Project & SharePoint
Structured development and problem-solving skills (e.g. Innovation, KT, DMAIC).

Responsibilities

Collaborate daily with cross-functional teams including union trades, operators, safety personnel, and various engineering disciplines to support production needs through troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and optimization driving root cause analysis and repair of equipment.
Manage and support critical engineering and development projects through design, installation, testing, and optimization phases.
Project Management through all phases including project initiation, scope development, funding, and execution of small to medium scaled projects ($20k - $2M) to enable production improvements required by the business.
Draft and review technical documentation, equipment layouts, SOPs, and mechanical schematics.
Collaborate with division and company resources in technology and engineering to enhance project effectiveness.
Partner with teams on new product and process launches, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
