About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Seattle, WA or the Portland/Vancouver area. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for a variety of building types while gaining hands-on experience alongside experienced engineers and consultants. In this role, you'll support project goals by working within project budgets, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to coordinated building-system design across hospitality, mixed-use, government, and MEP markets. You'll gain real project experience while supporting high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with mechanical system design for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards
  • Assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry
  • Support equipment research and selection for commercially available systems
  • Help maintain client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation
  • Assist with coordination of design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement
  • Work within the project’s monetary budget and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
