About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Rock Island, IL to support engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. Over 10-12 weeks, you will gain hands-on experience while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants on real project work. You will help the team work within project budgets, coordinate with cross-functional disciplines, and support project progress through documentation and periodic job site observations. This opportunity supports work tied to healthcare and MEP projects, with exposure to industrial support systems and facility upgrades, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry
  • Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards
  • Support project work within the project's monetary budget while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
  • Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment
  • Assist with good client relations, project design notebook, and documentation for permanent record files
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress
  • Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement
