About The Position

DoorDash Labs, established in 2018, is DoorDash’s innovation hub for automation and robotics solutions that support last-mile logistics. The team develops technologies to augment human networks and improve efficiency for Dashers, merchants, and consumers. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the mechanical design process for DoorDash’s next-generation autonomous delivery vehicle, including design, analysis, prototyping, and validation. With support from a mentor, manager, and teammates, you will develop components and sub-assemblies and present your work in cross-functional design reviews. You will collaborate with electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure designs integrate cleanly and can be manufactured, assembled, and serviced at fleet scale. You will also learn to validate designs through prototype builds, bench testing, tolerance analysis, and structural analysis, then incorporate feedback. This summer internship is intended for students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with no more than two years of full-time work experience and availability to start in May or June 2027. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, such as Mechatronics, Robotics, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering.
  • No more than 2 years of full-time work experience.
  • Available to start in May or June 2027; internships are hosted during the summer.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD.
  • Solid grasp of engineering fundamentals and ability to use first principles, calculations, simulation, and test data to support design decisions.
  • Demonstrated interest in mechanical design through coursework, team projects, or personal builds.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned design tasks.
  • Interest in learning how products are designed, built, and operated at scale.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA; NX is preferred.
  • Mechanical design experience through team projects such as Formula SAE or robotics clubs, or personal builds.
