Gray AES is looking to add a Mechanical Engineering Intern in our Lexington, KY office for Summer 2027. Requirements

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in 3D building modeling software (e.g., Revit) and experience with BIM workflows.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems and building codes (e.g., IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, with attention to detail and a proactive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in understanding project requirements and client needs.
  • Support the development of mechanical and plumbing system designs.
  • Contribute to the development of plans, specifications, and design drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Help perform energy and load calculations under supervision.
  • Select and schedule mechanical equipment with guidance.
  • Participate in cost and value analysis discussions with the project team.
  • Contribute to the development of plans, specifications, and design drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Participate in quality control reviews, learning to identify design inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and engineering teams to meet project deadlines and deliverables.
  • Help review contractor RFIs, shop drawings, and product submittals, with support from senior staff.
  • Attend internal and client meetings to gain exposure to project coordination and communication practices.
  • Engage in on-the-job training and mentorship, actively building technical and professional skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
