About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Columbus, OH to support the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This paid summer internship offers hands-on experience over 10-12 weeks with exposure to HVAC-focused work and real project deliverables. You will work within project budgets, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support project goals and client expectations across healthcare-focused MEP work. You will also assist with HVAC-related design tasks while contributing to high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design portions of mechanical systems according to code and IMEG standards
  • Assist with researching commercially available equipment
  • Support client relations, project design notebook maintenance, and permanent record documentation
  • Coordinate design and schedule activities with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to final check
  • Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement
  • Work within the project’s monetary budget
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
