Mechanical Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)
About The Position
The Advanced Airframes Department within Raytheon Hardware Engineering provides Mechanical Engineering support to develop solutions for products across the Raytheon portfolio. Our core mechanical engineering responsibilities include requirements/conceptual development, design, integration, and test support. We partner with several Mechanical Product Team departments to provide full system solutions. The Advanced Airframes Department is currently hiring a returning Mechanical Engineering Intern that will be located on site in Tucson, Arizona. This intern position will perform in the areas of design and development associated with mechanical designs, validation principals, design verification and qualification tests, hardware procurement, and transition to production processes across a design life cycle. Development work may include requirements understanding, concept development, DFMAs, first order analyses, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principals, engineering test principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presenting in design reviews. Some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support hardware procurement, testing, and other activities as needed.
Requirements
- Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
- Must have a minimum of 50 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
- Experience using computer aided design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
- Experience with mechanical hardware documentation or drawing standards.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued SECRET security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Nice To Haves
- Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.
- Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal analysis, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development.
