About The Position

Gravitics is seeking mechanical interns to join their 2027 Winter class (January-March 2027). Interns will receive high ownership and guidance with challenging and meaningful projects that are critical components to the success of the mission. They will partner with and learn from top professionals in the aerospace industry. This will be a 10-12 week internship in their facility in the greater Seattle area. Interns will be in the same location where structures, mechanisms, propulsion, life support systems, avionics, power systems, thermal systems, software, and associated testing are handled. The role is for individuals who are driven, passionate, collaborative, hands-on, and want to grow their technical skills to help enable expansion into the solar system. Internship disciplines include Mechanical Test Engineering and Motor Control Engineering.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program as a mechanical or electrical engineer (junior standing or higher) or a graduate program.
  • Have at least one semester or quarter of school remaining after the internship.
  • Available to work full time while not concurrently enrolled in coursework.
  • Strong written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles including voltage, current, resistance, power, Ohm's law, and Kirchhoff's laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Electronics lab work - wiring, soldering, instrumentation, documenting experiments
  • Familiar with stepper motors, PWM, phase current
  • Understanding of feedback vs. open loop, PID basics, stability, bandwidth
  • Embedded programming with C/C++, microcontrollers, GPIO, timers, interrupts
  • Writing test procedures, defining objectives, setting up tests, executing tests
  • Experience with load cells, thermocouples, pressure sensors, displacement sensors, accelerometers, resolvers
  • Experience with tensile, compression, vibration, thermal, fatigue, functional tests
  • Designing and building test equipment such as dynos, structures, 80/20 aluminum extrusion
  • Designing welded or machined structures
  • Tolerance stack-up studies and drafting engineering drawings

  • Test and execute engineering developments.
  • Write test procedures, define objectives, set up tests, and execute tests (for Mechanical Test Engineering).
  • Design and build test equipment such as dynos, structures, and 80/20 aluminum extrusion (for Mechanical Test Engineering).
  • Design welded or machined structures (for Mechanical Test Engineering).
  • Perform tolerance stack-up studies and draft engineering drawings (for Mechanical Test Engineering).
  • Perform electronics lab work including wiring, soldering, instrumentation, and documenting experiments (for Motor Control Engineering).
