About The Position

The Mechanical Engineering Co-op will contribute to next‑generation product development for the surgical operating room environment as a key member of a cross‑functional design team. In this role, the Co-op will perform 3D CAD modeling, create detailed 2D drawings, and support hands‑on assembly and verification testing activities. The position also offers exposure to the processes and documentation required for successful medical device development, along with opportunities to gain practical experience in rapid prototyping, troubleshooting, product testing, and collaborating with engineers across multiple disciplines.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering - Sophomore year requirements must be completed by program start date (August 2026)
  • Completed at least one CAD 3D modeling course - experience in SolidWorks or Creo preferred.
  • Experience working with basic hand tools.
  • General proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Requires organization, communication, problem solving, troubleshooting skills and a mature approach to cross functional working environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Highly prefer completion of a prior internship or technical/mechanical work experience.
  • Experience using 3D CAD to model designs and then able to translate into 2D CAD drawings that can be used to produce prototypes.
  • Hands-on experience with various tools used in basic assembly or in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Lab-based coursework as well as practical experience in designing, building and testing electro-mechanical prototypes is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with components and assembly design for concepts, products and test fixtures.
  • Utilize PTC Creo to create 3D models of the designs and detailed 2D drawings.
  • Develop demonstrations of various new products or component concepts.
  • Build and test functional prototypes to demonstrate product design concepts.
  • Develop test protocols then collect, analyze and document data.
  • Follow medical and industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Participate in design reviews and verification activities.
  • Research various technologies, manufacturing methods, and materials.
  • Communication of designs and test results to engineering and cross functional teams.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and follow all safety procedures.
