About The Position

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-In-Training with 2+ years of experience to join the Sacramento, CA office's MEP team. This role involves supporting the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing team, specifically working on Building Systems Engineering and/or Industrial project types. The position requires performing general mechanical engineering tasks, including load calculations for HVAC, Exhaust, Chilled & Heating Hot Water Systems, and preparing design drawings and calculations under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. The role also involves solving complex problems, assisting project managers, and collaborating across disciplines to realize client visions. Familiarity with state and local code regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn’s and client practices, procedures, and standards, is important. Project types may include advanced manufacturing facilities, industrial facilities, and mission critical facilities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in a similar mechanical engineering role with familiarity working on advanced manufacturing facilities, industrial facilities, and mission critical facilities
  • An ABET accredited engineering degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT/EI certification and/or Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain licensure)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands and solve problems for our clients
  • Positive attitude and an impressive work ethic
  • Clear sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines
  • Attention to details and ability to contribute to a positive work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and excel
  • Exposure to Trane Trace or IESVE

Responsibilities

  • Support our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing team specifically working on Building Systems Engineering and/or Industrial project types.
  • Perform general mechanical engineering tasks supporting various projects such as load calculations for HVAC, Exhaust, Chilled & Heating Hot Water Systems.
  • Prepare design drawings - floor plans, flow diagrams, details, schedules, etc. and calculations for projects under a Professional Engineer.
  • Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines to produce our clients’ visions for the future built environment.
  • Familiarity with the State and local Code regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn’s and our client’s practices, procedures, and standards.
