About The Position

Kimley-Horn's is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-In-Training with 2+ years of experience to join the Orlando, Florida (FL) office's MEP team! This role involves supporting the design of HVAC and mechanical systems for a variety of project types, including commercial, hospitality, municipal, and federal projects. The position requires performing HVAC load calculations, ventilation analysis, and assisting with system sizing and selection. The engineer will also develop Revit/BIM models and construction documents, including ductwork and piping layouts, and assist in the preparation of technical specifications and energy compliance documentation. Collaboration with internal disciplines, architects, contractors, and project teams is essential, as is conducting field investigations and site visits. The role also includes construction administration tasks such as submittal reviews and responding to RFIs, with a focus on contributing to project delivery and developing independence and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (ABET accredited)
  • 2+ years of relevant mechanical/HVAC experience
  • EIT/EI certification or ability to obtain
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems (load calculations, ductwork, basic system design)
  • Working knowledge of Plumbing systems (basic layouts and coordination)
  • Experience with Revit or BIM-based design tools
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and contribute to a team environment

  • 3+ years of experience with increasing responsibility in design and project coordination
  • Experience supporting multiple project types, including commercial, hospitality, municipal, and/or federal sectors
  • Demonstrated growth toward independent task execution and technical problem-solving

Responsibilities

  • Support the design of HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, hospitality, municipal, and federal projects
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, ventilation analysis, and assist with system sizing and selection
  • Develop Revit/BIM models and construction documents, including ductwork and piping layouts
  • Assist in preparation of technical specifications and energy compliance documentation (e.g., COMcheck)
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines and support collaboration with architects, contractors, and project teams
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits to document existing conditions and support design development
  • Assist with construction administration tasks such as submittal reviews and responding to RFIs
  • Contribute to project delivery by completing assigned tasks with increasing independence and accountability
