Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Proven experience in the design, construction, or maintenance of commercial, industrial, or military facility mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of the International Mechanical Code (IMC), ASHRAE standards, and familiarity with military Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) design standards.
  • Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and mechanical load calculation tools (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a required security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive engineering designs, scopes of work, specifications, and cost estimates for facility mechanical systems, including advanced HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, fire suppression, and building automation control systems.
  • Conduct site investigations and energy audits to evaluate existing mechanical systems, boilers, chillers, and distribution piping. Identify deficiencies, calculate thermal loads, and recommend lifecycle upgrades or energy-efficient modernization strategies.
  • Review technical submittals, equipment shop drawings, and design plans submitted by external construction contractors. Ensure all proposed work complies with the International Mechanical Code (IMC), Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and Department of the Air Force standards.
  • Investigate complex mechanical failures, system imbalances, and climate control issues across base infrastructure. Provide actionable engineering recommendations, troubleshooting support, and technical guidance to operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Work closely with electrical, civil, and architectural engineers, as well as energy management specialists, to ensure the cohesive, timely, and successful execution of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
