AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Detroit, MI. This role involves designing HVAC and plumbing systems for diverse building types, including laboratories, clean rooms, healthcare facilities, and high-tech client sites. The Mechanical Engineer will also be responsible for developing custom solutions for unique projects. Key aspects of the role include collaborating with other engineers, preparing calculations, construction drawings, and design reports under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The successful candidate will demonstrate critical thinking to identify and resolve issues efficiently, participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables, perform quality control checks on design calculations and drawings, and prepare technical specification sections. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to the development of engineering budgets and schedules and provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers. The position allows for telecommuting up to 2 days per week and requires 7% domestic travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field of study and 4 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Engineer, or in a related occupation
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field and 2 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Engineer, or in a related occupation
  • Utilizing ASHRAE standards and building codes
  • Analyzing and developing layouts of HVAC systems for buildings
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure
  • REVIT
  • CAD
  • load calculation software
  • MS Excel
  • Construction phase experience, including submittal reviews, on-site inspections, RFIs, and change orders
  • Plumbing and Medical Gas design experience for hospitals and labs

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC and plumbing for all building types including laboratories, clean rooms, healthcare, and hightech clients
  • Design custom solutions for unique projects
  • Interact with other engineers and develop calculations, construction drawings, and design reports under the supervision of a Senior Engineer
  • Demonstrate critical thinking to quickly recognize issues and be part of the solution
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings
  • Prepare technical specification sections
  • Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior engineers
